Stop the Eviction of Latino Tenants After Georgetown ICE Raid

Stop the Eviction of Latino Tenants After Georgetown ICE Raid
The Issue
In the early morning hours of October 24, a building near Wisconsin Avenue and O Street NW in Georgetown was raided by ICE and multiple other agencies. Eyewitnesses say residents were zip-tied, handcuffed, and interrogated without warrants, and Latino tenants were targeted. Officers overturned beds and tore apart belongings in Latino units while leaving others untouched. Ammunition was left behind, and at least two people were deported within days.
Now, residents say that the Latino tenants in the building have been told to vacate by the end of the month, without the 30-day legal notice required under Washington, D.C. law. The property is managed by TranGroup LLC, which has not provided written notices and appears to be acting in retaliation.
This is unlawful and discriminatory.
We are calling on the D.C. Department of Housing and Community Development and Attorney General Brian Schwalb to immediately:
- Investigate TranGroup LLC for illegal eviction practices
- Ensure all tenants receive due process and legal representation
- Intervene to halt the evictions and hold the property owner accountable for potential housing code violations
- Protect the right to safe, stable housing for all residents, regardless of immigration status
The District of Columbia has clear tenant protection laws, and no landlord is above them. Evicting tenants, especially those who were just subjected to a traumatic and potentially unconstitutional raid, is a direct attack on immigrant communities and housing justice.
If we let landlords use ICE operations as cover for mass evictions, we set a dangerous precedent for racial and economic displacement.
Sign this petition if you believe every tenant deserves legal protections, no matter where they are from or what language they speak.
