The Issue

In RAF Scampton many know us as a typical family. My husband, a proud former RAF aircraft engineer, dedicated 12 years of his life to serving his country. His service demanded a great deal from him, not least of which was the grievous personal injury he sustained while in service — nerve damage in both feet that severely restricts his mobility and requires strong medication affecting his mental capacities. Despite the honour and risk inherent in his work, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) did not respond with equal measure: his injuries were downplayed, not diagnosed correctly (after his discharge from military, NHS carried proper tests and diagnosed CRPS and futher consequential conditions) and the proper compensation was denied, he's left without a military health pension, and now we face eviction from our military accommodation. He is house bound relying on crutches and wheelchair and my help. Our two children doing very well at William Farr school in Welton which support them to remain at school as our son is year 10 and offered a chance to take up engineering Scholarship.

Here's the irony: our home is not needed for further use. Our airbase has been closed, and our home is now categorised as 'surplus'. Injustice upon injustice. Local councils West Lindsey and District Braintree could not offer us any suitable housing since 2021 to this day. Due to constant stress since my husband's medical discharge and years of pleas for help of Military charities,  vetrans ministers, MoD and MP I suffer now from depression and anxiety affecting my life and work.
The plight of my family is not an isolated case. Many injured veterans face similar circumstances with scant recourse for redress.
The respect and gratitude towards our military veterans should extend far beyond annual remembrance ceremonies. We ask for concrete legislative protection to prevent injured veterans from being evicted from surplus military housing if local authorities cannot offer suitable accommodation. It is a practical step, a show of compassion, and a recognition of their service and sacrifice. Our situation proves that Armed Forces Covenant is just fairy tale.

MoD doesn't care of our human rights or equality act- only focus on corporate finacial gains to sell our house to private company.

We are calling on the British Ministry of Defence to stop the eviction of injured veterans from military accommodations till suitable accommodation is found and do not put us in disadvantage and futher hardship.  Stand with the brave service men and women who risked their lives for our safety and freedom. Sign this petition and let the Ministry of Defence know that those who served deserve better.
