Tracy Coy started this petition to stop the cluster schools programme in Cowal.

On 3 June, Argyll & Bute Council announced radical plans to change the way our schools function in Cowal. DGS and seven primary schools including Kirn will form a cluster - giving a combined school roll of 1,450 pupils. The most important changes include:

1. Our Primary School would no longer have its own head teacher. Instead, the cluster of eight schools would be overseen by one Executive Head, supported by a leadership team.

2. Our teachers and support staff will be employed by the cluster and could be moved to other schools on a temporary or permanent basis, as the council sees fit.

3. Pupils could be moved around different schools in the cluster “to take advantage of the facilities best suited to particular areas of learning”.

This proposal comes at a time when the focus should be on education recovery following the pandemic and, in particular, on ensuring the emotional wellbeing of our children. The proposed “fluid and flexible” approach to the deployment of educational resources under the Education Transformation Programme is not in line with our children’s need for stability and security. We want them to continue to benefit from the existing, proven model with a dedicated head teacher in the school and trusted, familiar teaching staff around them within their usual learnimg environment.
