Stop the Devon County Council Fire and Rehire of Essential Car Users

Stop the Devon County Council Fire and Rehire of Essential Car Users
The Issue
GMB, Unison and Unite The Union are appalled that Devon County Council have resorted to using the Bullying tactic of Fire & Re Hire. This practice is a massive kick in the face of hardworking, dedicated staff who go above and beyond delivering statuary services across Devon.
Devon County Council's unjust threat to terminate employment of approximately 834 devoted staff members, all of who serve some of the most vulnerable individuals in Devon, has left us compelled to rally for change. The fact standing, these employees have been informed they must submit to new, inferior terms and conditions by 23rd March or face termination of their employment- a decision issued after their rightful rejection of proposed changes on the Essential car user’s allowance. This issue is a personal affront not just to the employees, but to the countless individuals they care for daily - those whose well-being depends on the services these employees provide using their personal cars. The council's decision ignores their commitment and dedication.
Devon County is home to nearly 800,000 inhabitants, a substantial portion of whom are affected by these essential services. The loss of these diligent employees can cripple the entire support system within the county. We urge the council to return to the negotiating table, to consider the impact of their decisions, not only on the employees but also on the very community they are pledged to serve.
In refusing to degrade employment conditions for hundreds of hardworking individuals and maintaining the stability of our community's support systems, the council can demonstrate their dedication to the welfare of Devon County. Sign this petition to demand Devon County Council to halt its fire and rehire plan, and to restart negotiations with its unparalleled staff members.
