Stop the Development of Pritchett Farm

Stop the Development of Pritchett Farm
The Issue
The Pritchett Farm has been a cornerstone of our community for over 150 years. It's not just a piece of land; it's a testament to our region's rich agricultural history and a vital part of our rural landscape. This farm has been passed down through generations, each one dedicated to preserving its agricultural heritage. Now, a developer wants to strip away its legacy and transform it into a housing development, forever altering its character. Located at 7930 NC Hwy150 E (which is part of the Colonial Heritage Scenic Byway), these 120+ acres of North Carolina farmland would be lost forever - and we all know; once farmland is lost it does not come back.
The proposed development threatens not only the farmland but also the well-being of our entire community. Turning this land into a housing development would severely reduce our precious green spaces. Green spaces are not only aesthetically pleasing but are crucial for maintaining the environmental balance. They provide a habitat for wildlife, a space for recreation, and contribute to the overall well-being of the community.
Moreover, the new housing would rely on well water, putting a strain on our entire community's water supply. Our wells are finely calculated to support the current population, and the addition of numerous homes could lead to unsustainable water demands, affecting not just supply, but also water quality.
The impact of light pollution from the development would disrupt our nights and the natural habitat of nocturnal wildlife that contributes to the ecological diversity of our area, hindering everything from our own stargazing to firefly conservation.
We must think ahead and preserve this land not just for today but for future generations who will cherish it as we do. Instead of shoe-box houses packed tightly together, we can maintain the farmland that reflects our history and sustains our present.
Let’s stand united to protect the Pritchett Farm. Let the decision-makers know that our community values its green spaces and agricultural heritage too much to let it be razed for short-term gain!
How can you do that?
1) Sign this petition to tell the officials at Guilford County that Pritchett Farm should remain farmland. Ensure that future generations inherit the same vibrant ecosystems, green lands, clean air and rich soil that we have been privileged to.
2) Share this petition on any social media available
3) Come to the meeting! Your presence matters — and the numbers prove it. Last time, community turnout was a key reason the Board of Commissioners denied their previous rezoning request. Now it's back on the table. So join us Thursday, July 23 at 5:30 PM at the Board of Commissioners Chambers, Old Courthouse, Greensboro to stand up for this green space in Guilford County.
