Our small, tranquil bedroom community of Mount Brydges, Ontario, is under threat by the potential development of a McDonald's fast food restaurant. While nearby larger towns such as London and Strathroy have hundreds of fast food venues and other chain stores, Mount Brydges has attracted residents for its unique community-style living away from the bustle of commercial life. Once you allow one fast food restaurant to establish itself, experience from other small towns across Canada shows it will likely pave the way for more, gradually transforming the character of our town from a quiet residential community into just another commercial hub (Canadian Journal of Urban Research, 2019). We need to protect our town’s character and lifestyle that makes Mount Brydges a truly unique place to live in Ontario.
