As a resident of Wallkill, NY, I've always cherished the serene atmosphere and  community our neighborhood offers. For many of us, it's this very environment that drew us in and made us call it home. However, the recent proposal to build a 96-unit housing complex on the old Borden Farmland threatens to drastically alter our small town feel, compromising not only the sense of community but also the safety and quality of life we've always treasured.

The potential increase in traffic is more than just an inconvenience. As many of our children walk to school, the lack of adequate sidewalks, and influx of traffic becomes a genuine concern for their safety. The dramatic increase of new residents could overwhelm our already strained infrastructure, pushing our schools, emergency services, and local facilities to their limits. It's not just about traffic; it's about the potential ripple effect on every aspect of daily life in our Hamlet.

Additionally, the environmental implications are deeply troubling. The proposed site includes protected wetlands and a stream that feeds into the Wallkill River. This development could pose a severe risk to these ecosystems, potentially leading to their degradation.

We urge the decision makers to reconsider this proposal and explore alternative locations that would not jeopardize the environmental integrity, safety, and community essence of Wallkill. Development can be beneficial, but it should be done in a manner that considers the existing community and natural habitats.
