Stop the Development of a 68-Room Hotel on Azusa and Glentana Street

Stop the Development of a 68-Room Hotel on Azusa and Glentana Street
The Issue
On Tuesday, June 18th, the Covina City Council will vote on the development of a three-story, 68-room hotel at the corner of Azusa and Glentana Street. The proposed hotel would bring increased traffic, noise pollution, and safety concerns to a peaceful cul-de-sac. We need to preserve our neighborhood's character and ensure it remains a safe place for families. Please sign this petition to urge the Covina City Council to reject this development proposal. Issues with the hotel:
- Alleyway: One significant issue is the hotel's driveway entrance on Azusa, which would intersect with the residents' alleyway—a vital road for locals accessing their garages, essential services like garbage and delivery trucks, and business vehicles. This new configuration not only exacerbates traffic congestion and safety concerns but also introduces the unsettling possibility of car chase scenarios.
- Noise pollution: Glentana Street is easily disrupted by echoes from passing vehicles and everyday activities. With the influx of hotel-related traffic, residents fear an escalation in disruptive noise levels, particularly impacting those living near the proposed development. This noise through the alleyway enters the resident's bedroom windows.
- Parking shortage: Parking shortages on Glentana Street further compound the problem, as residents now face the prospect of sharing limited parking spaces with hotel guests and potential ride-share services, exacerbating an already challenging situation.
- Homeless and unwanted attention: The hotel would bring hundreds of strangers to a quiet residential street and attract the attention of the nearby homeless population which compounds safety concerns, as residents worry about attracting unwanted attention to their neighborhood and the potential implications for their security.
- Northview High School: The proximity of the hotel to Northview High School raises alarms regarding student safety, as the increased foot traffic along the street heightens the risk of accidents.
