Stop the Destructive Solar Panel Farm in Farmville, VA!

The Issue

As a concerned resident of Farmville, VA and a member of the neighboring community, I am deeply troubled by the proposed 23-acre solar panel farm on Old Ridge Road. This petition aims to bring attention to the potential negative impacts this project could have on our already fragile environment, wildlife habitat, safety, and quality of life.

Living on the adjacent property to the landowner in question has allowed me firsthand experience of his disregard for our local ecosystem. The landowner has already cleared a significant number of trees from his property without any consideration for its impact on wildlife or our community's aesthetic appeal. Moreover, he recently erected three deer stands behind my property and hunts near our once-protected hunting grounds.

The destruction caused by these actions has disrupted natural habitats and forced animals like bears into our neighborhood due to their diminishing habitat options. It is disheartening to witness such blatant disregard for nature's delicate balance by someone who doesn't even reside here.

Now, this same landowner plans to lease his property for a 23-acre solar panel farm without taking into account its potential consequences. Placing such an industrial-scale project between two established subdivisions with approximately 20 homes will undoubtedly further disrupt wildlife habitats and negatively impact local flora and fauna.

Additionally, this solar panel farm will generate increased traffic along Old Ridge Road—a road that already struggles with heavy congestion from approximately 400 vehicles daily. The safety concerns associated with additional traffic cannot be ignored or underestimated.

Our community deserves better than this ill-conceived project that prioritizes profit over environmental stewardship and public well-being. We must stand together as residents of Farmville against these destructive actions that threaten our beloved town's natural beauty and harmony.

By signing this petition, you are urging New Leaf Energy Inc., as well as relevant authorities in charge of approving this project, to reconsider their plans for the solar panel farm on Old Ridge Road. We demand a thorough assessment of the potential environmental impacts, traffic consequences, and safety hazards before any further steps are taken.

Let us protect our local wildlife, preserve our cherished trees, and maintain the tranquility of our community. Together, we can ensure that Farmville remains a place where nature thrives alongside human habitation.
