Stop the Destruction of Yew Tree Farm

The Issue

Yew Tree Farm is Bristol’s last working farm and a designated site of nature conservation interest. Sadly on Thursday February 22nd, contractors have ravaged the landscape, slashing through ancient hedgerows and trampling species-rich meadows. The desecration witnessed is an affront to nature. This wildlife haven faces further desecration as Bristol City Council plows forward with plans to extend the South Bristol Cemetery onto these protected fields. Despite the outcry from Avon Wildlife Trust and the discovery of dormice, a legally protected species, the relentless march of destruction persists. We stand at a crossroads where the preservation of Yew Tree Farm's ecological tapestry hangs in the balance. Join us in demanding an immediate stop to the wanton destruction of Yew Tree Farm before more irreparable harm befalls this natural treasure.

Here is are the actions we expect those responsible to take:

Redrow/Barratt:
 ◦ End your option on Yew Tree Farm

Bristol City Council:
 ◦ Halt all work on the crematorium expansion including signing any contracts for the drainage structure until full ecological surveys are done for dormice, bats, invertebrates and otters at the appropriate time of year
 ◦ End any involvement on your land with the proposed tenant who caused this damage or any member of the Withers family that isn’t Catherine
 ◦ Give the lease back to Catherine Withers
 ◦ Rethink the entire crematorium application application

David James/Newcombe
 ◦ End your lease with the current tenant who caused this damage immediately
 ◦ Lease the land back to Catherine Withers
 ◦ Remove the new gate, new wire fence and replant the hedge in the gap
 ◦ Restore the ecology of the field back to its former level or better
