Stop the destruction of Oregon's last great forests

Stop the destruction of Oregon's last great forests
The Issue
Living near Oregon's majestic forests has been a privilege that I have never taken for granted. These forests are not just a home for me, but they are the lifeblood of countless species, providing a rich habitat for wildlife, maintaining the purity of our streams, and serving as crucial allies in our fight against climate change.
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has announced an unconscionable plan to fell some of the last great forests in Oregon. This decision threatens to destroy the homes of countless animals, from deer to owls, and disrupt the delicate ecosystems that have long flourished under the canopies of these ancient trees. Salmon, which spawn in the very streams running through these forests, will face dire challenges as tree felling pollutes their waterways and disrupts their life cycles.
Furthermore, in our battle against the climate crisis, these trees play an indispensable role. They sequester vast amounts of carbon daily, helping to manage and reduce greenhouse gases in our atmosphere. Their destruction would not only deplete biodiversity but also exacerbate global warming, with consequences that will ripple far beyond Oregon.
We call on the BLM to reconsider their plan. Instead of targeting these vital ecosystems, we can explore alternative solutions that balance economic development with environmental preservation. Sustainable forest management practices, reforestation projects in previously degraded areas, and community-based conservation efforts are actionable steps that can provide economic benefits while preserving our natural heritage for future generations.
Join us in standing up for Oregon's forests by signing this petition. Together, we can make a loud and clear statement that these natural treasures should not be sacrificed for short-term gains. Your signature can help protect this irreplaceable ecosystem and the myriad life forms that depend on it. Let's ensure that these forests continue to stand tall, for us, for wildlife, and for our planet's future.
