An application has been submitted for a rezoning by a demolition and excavating company. They want to get the land approved for heavy industrial activity so they can rip 44 acres of the woods out by 20th St and Blue Ridge in Independence, MO and fill it with construction and demolition waste so when the woods are long gone and filled with industrial waste, the rezoning will then allow them to sell to what ever industry they wish.
Here are pictures of the area https://www.google.com/maps/place/Independence,+MO+64052/@39.0812828,-94.4694996,707m/data=!3m2!1e3!4b1!4m2!3m1!1s0x87c0fcbad27bf8a3:0xc91d4bc8587e6f0a
The most important things that we can do at this time are to sign this petition, call and email the city council people (contact info is below), and show up at the meeting on Monday, July 6th at 6pm at City Hall, 111 Maple St, Independence, MO. At this meeting, the city council will decide whether to vote on the rezoning or to put off voting for two more weeks.
When you call and email the city council people (contact info is below), please tell them vote NO on rezoning 44 acres of woods by 23rd St and Blue Ridge in Independence, MO.
The more concerned people they see and hear from, the better.
We need you.
The woods need you.
Destruction of our environment, community, property value, increase in health risks to us and our children (the quality of our water and air), noise pollution, heavy machinery driving up and down Blue Ridge Blvd causing dust and noise to affect everyone in their path. Our children venture into this area for adventure and play. What will they be exposing themselves to? And the animals that depend on that area for their food and home.
The woods will essentially be gone.
They were only required to notify people who owned property 185 feet of the border of the proposed industrial dump site. We all know a much greater area of people will be significantly affected by the rezoning if, we as a people allow it to go through.
After we have stopped this rezoning attempt, We are hoping, along with the help of the Heartland Conservation Alliance, the help of the people, and any grants or monies we can dig up, to purchase the land in a trust for the people and the generations to come. We would like to make it into a conservation area like Burr Oaks.
The family that has owned this land for almost a 100 years, wants to get it off their hands. We need to do that for them.
Please contact the following and tell them to vote NO on rezoning!
