The Issue

Over the past decade, Hindu temples across Fiji have been repeatedly vandalized, desecrated, and burned—acts that threaten not only sacred spaces but the very fabric of Fiji’s multicultural society.

Recent attacks include:

  • Sanatan Shiv Mandir, Samabula (2025) – Sacred idols smashed in broad daylight
  • Shree Baba Ragho Dass Vishnu Mandir, Sawani – Stoned and damaged
  • Labasa Temples – Multiple incidents of theft and desecration
  • Wailailai Kuti Temple (Ba) – Alleged arson and destruction of prayer items

These are not isolated events. They reflect a disturbing pattern of religious intolerance and neglect. Temples are spiritual homes, cultural landmarks, and symbols of peace. Their protection is a moral and constitutional duty.

We, the undersigned, demand that the Government of Fiji:

  1. Publicly condemn all acts of religious vandalism
  2. Conduct transparent investigations and prosecute offenders
  3. Increase security around vulnerable places of worship
  4. Establish a national task force on religious harmony
  5. Provide financial support for restoration of damaged temples
  6. Promote interfaith education and community dialogue.

Let Fiji rise as a beacon of unity, where every faith is honored and every citizen feels safe to worship without fear.

Sign now to protect Fiji’s sacred spaces and uphold the values of peace, dignity, and religious freedom.

Bhagavad Gita (Chapter 2, Verse 47)

"कर्मण्येवाधिकारस्ते मा फलेषु कदाचन।" "You have a right to perform your duty, but not to the fruits thereof." This verse reminds us to act with integrity and devotion, regardless of outcome. Protecting sacred spaces is a dharma—an obligation we must fulfill without attachment to reward.

Ramayan (Valmiki Ramayan, Ayodhya Kanda)

"धर्मो रक्षति रक्षितः।" "Dharma protects those who protect it." This timeless truth affirms that when we stand up for righteousness, righteousness stands up for us. By defending our temples, we uphold dharma—and dharma, in turn, will uphold our community.
