With the release of the recent white paper, nothing surprises us anymore. We have been living through the hostile environment for years. Fatou’s case is just one brutal example of how this system dehumanises and targets our communities.

Fatou is still languishing in detention. We are deeply thankful for all the urgent actions taken to stop her deportation at the last hour. If it weren’t for this incredible outpouring of support, she would have been removed.

But this has come at a cost. Fatou shared how she was sneaked out of Yarlswood in the middle of the night like a prisoner, surrounded by more than six enforcement officers, taken to the airport in complete silence and fear. It was only because of collective pressure that the deportation was halted ,but not before her mental health was pushed to the edge again. Fatou lives with depression, and detention has been traumatising.

Applying for bail under this system is intentionally unjust and complicated. But we are not giving up. We are still fighting for Fatou’s release and for justice.

Communities are still taking action!

Many thanks to  Solidarity Knows No Borders, who took powerful solidarity action for #FreeFatou in Sheffield last month.
