The Issue

Our community in Dyersburg, Tennessee, has been deeply affected by the devastating fire at Wilson Circle, which destroyed six apartments and displaced five families, including many with minor children. The emotional and financial turmoil this has caused these families cannot be overstated as they have lost their homes, personal belongings, and their sense of security.

Unfortunately, there's an urgent proposal to demolish the burned structures immediately, before the legal processes are complete, and without allowing residents the chance to retrieve irreplaceable personal items. This is not only a blow to these families but also a rushed decision that overlooks the needs and rights of those affected.

Before any demolition, we demand that the tenants are given the right to enter their homes under safe conditions to salvage any belongings that can still be found, following their signing of a waiver of liability. This will not only offer them some comfort during such a hard time but also show empathy and understanding towards their situation.

Furthermore, the legal processes concerning this incident must be allowed to reach their conclusion with full due diligence. This includes insurance assessments and investigations into the cause of the fire. The voices of the displaced residents should not be drowned out in these proceedings.

We call upon the city officials of Dyersburg and the property management to halt the immediate demolition plans and consider the profound impact on these families’ lives.

By signing this petition, you stand in solidarity with the affected families and demand justice and fair treatment for those who have lost so much. Please sign and share to advocate for empathy, patience, and proper procedure in handling this tragedy.

Sign this petition to help provide a just and fair resolution for the displaced residents of Wilson Circle and ensure their voices are heard in the face of adversity.
