Stop the Demolition of the Unique Round Building in East Memphis

The Issue

Our beloved round building in East Memphis is under threat. This architecturally unique structure with its distinct stonework and circular design has been part of our community since the 1960s. From diverse business reiterations to standing as a beacon in our local history, this building at 931 S. White Station Rd at Park Ave has witnessed the passage of time. Yet now, it's set for demolition to be replaced with a Bojangles fast food restaurant.

This building signifies more than past decades; it symbolizes our struggle to preserve architectural distinctiveness in the face of commercialization. Witnessing the replacement of a cherished structure with a fast-food outlet, notorious for its cheap rush-built construction, and the environmental disturbance it is going to cause, is neither progress nor development.

Quite the opposite, it feels like an assault on our sense of place, our neighborhood’s identity and dignity. The unique qualities of our round building are irreplaceable and we are fighting to maintain the character that makes East Memphis special.

Our purpose is clear – we need an emergency injunction to halt this demolition and protect our building. We urge every resident, every lover of architectural heritage and uniqueness, to sign this petition. Raise your voice against this distressing destruction and join us in our fight to save our round building. Help us ensure that the architectural integrity of East Memphis is respected and preserved.
