Stop the demolition of the grain elevators in Napinka Manitoba
The Issue
The two Ogilvie grain elevators in Napinka MB are scheduled to be demolished.
This news is causing great anxiety and anger across Canada amongst those of us who care deeply about prairie history and heritage.
We understand they are old, tired, and derelict. We can appreciate they pose challenges for maintenance and safety; elevators have been preserved and repurposed all over the prairies and great plains so we believe the same can be done for Napinka's.
Grain elevators are the beacons of the prairies. They are a testament to our ancestors’ hard work and settlement of the land. They teach us about our past and tell a story of the prairie’s contribution to our country.
These elevators are iconic; they represent the prairie landscape and burst out into the big sky with grandeur and majesty.
The landscape will lose hugely important sentinels if they are destroyed and the history and beauty wiped out.
We asking to stop the planned demolition so preservation options can be explored.
