Stop the demolition of our historical building

Stop the demolition of our historical building
The Issue
Growing up in our town, one of my most unique memories was visiting Crushed Tomato, a place that held an atmosphere like no other, and historical significance. This building is more than just bricks; it stands as a testament to our town’s history and the heritage of the family that runs the business. Now, the city plans to demolish it to create a round-a-bout that we do not need or want. This decision is not only unnecessary, but it also reflects a disregard for our town's history and community values. Furthermore, it creates issues for kids that use the road to walk to school in the mornings.
The historical building in question is importantly to our identity. Built 15 years ago as a cotten mill, it has witnessed the growth of our community. Its architecture is a rare and unseen, and it’s one of the few that remains today. One of the best restaurants we have in Summerville and yet the city officials have ignored the community’s liking of the restaurant in favor of urban development that does not serve the community's needs.
Instead of demolishing a cherished landmark, the city should explore alternatives. Options such as integrating traffic management solutions that preserve the building should be considered. Urban planners and traffic experts suggest designs that enhance traffic flow without compromising heritage sites. Let's urge our city planners to pause and reassess this course of action in favor of a solution that respects our history and community.
Join me in calling upon our town officials to save one of our favorite and only local restaurants. Sign this petition to ensure that our voices are heard, and this invaluable piece of our past is preserved for future generations. Together, we can advocate for change that honors our heritage while meeting modern needs.
