For over 12 years, the Manor House in Cleobury Mortimer, a Grade II* Listed Building in a prominent position on the High Street, has been left abandoned and neglected by its owner.

A listed building is a building, object or structure that has been judged to be of national, historical or architectural importance.

At present, the outward appearance of the woodwork on doors and windows is showing significant signs of rot due to peeling paint leaving the wood bare. There appears to be missing roof tiles and mortar. Vegetation growth is evident between the windows and internal shutters on at least one ground floor window, indicating the presence of significant moisture levels inside the house. This may be a result of the internal flood from a burst water tank well over a decade ago, or more recent water ingress due to the poor condition of the building fabric. Overall, the Manor House has become an eyesore, and a source of anger, sadness and frustration for those who look out on to it from their own homes.

The aforementioned flood is believed to have affected the grand oak curved staircase which gives the building its star on the Listed Building status - the current condition of it is unknown.

Despite campaigning for several years, a great number of those who live in Cleobury Mortimer are deeply concerned that no action appears to be being taken by Shropshire County Council to ensure the owner meets his obligations to maintain the property in good condition. There have been no recent surveys of the property's condition, particularly to the inside which is obviously now deteriorating too.

The fear is that if left as it is, the building and a beautiful part of Cleobury Mortimer's history will be lost forever.

We are therefore petitioning Shropshire County Council to invoke whatever powers they have to require the owner to permit entry to enable a structural survey and condition report, and to enforce any action that is required to repair and/ or secure the condition of the building.
