The Issue

**Help Us Protect Bennett’s Water and Energy Resources!**

As a resident of Bennett, I am deeply concerned about the proposed construction of a massive data center in our community. This is not an anti-technology sentiment—it is about preserving fairness, transparency, and securing essential resources for our families.

Data centers are notorious for their enormous consumption of water and energy. They use millions of gallons of water primarily for cooling purposes and draw large amounts of electricity. Such consumption can have alarming consequences for local residents, including increased utility rates, overburdened infrastructure, and reduced water availability.

📊 **The Hard Facts:**
- **Water Consumption:** Data centers can use upwards of 1.25 million gallons of water per day, depending on their size. This could result in a significant drain on our local water supplies, impacting availability for households and local businesses (Source: U.S. Department of Energy).
- **Energy Usage:** Data centers consume more power than many other commercial facilities, with some averaging as much electricity as small cities. This surge in demand often leads to higher electricity costs for residents (Source: Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory).

This isn’t just about our infrastructure or wallet. It’s about safeguarding our community’s future. By allowing this data center to proceed without transparent discussions and equitable solutions, we risk compromising the quality of life in Bennett.

We must collectively demand a thorough examination of the environmental and economic impacts before any commitments are made. We need guarantees that any development will not disproportionately burden residents. The developers must provide clear plans on how they will use sustainable practices to mitigate water and energy use and ensure that utility costs won't unfairly increase.

Let’s stand together to demand that our voices be heard and that our finite resources are preserved responsibly. Please sign this petition to advocate for responsible growth in Bennett and ensure our water and power remain accessible and affordable for everyone.

Responded
The Town of Bennett previously issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) for a data center development. Following a comprehensive review and evaluation of the proposals received, the Town determined on November 26, 2025 that no contract for the data center project would be awarded at this time. Additional information regarding the RFP process, including the non-award determination, is available on the Town’s website at https://www.bennettco.gov/finance/page/request-bids.
