The Issue

The construction of a new data center in Carol Stream poses significant risks to our environment and health. We urge local government officials and stakeholders to reconsider this project in light of the impact it could have on our community's well-being.

Data centers require massive amounts of energy and water to operate. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, data centers can consume up to 100 to 200 times the electricity of standard office spaces, contributing heavily to greenhouse gas emissions. Furthermore, the massive cooling systems needed to maintain these facilities' operations draw tremendous amounts of water, potentially straining local resources. Carol Stream could be particularly vulnerable to these environmental pressures, especially during periods of drought or water scarcity.

Air quality is another major concern. The diesel generators often used as backup power sources for data centers can emit pollutants that degrade air quality. With Carol Stream already experiencing fluctuating air quality due to industrial activities, the introduction of these additional emissions could exacerbate respiratory issues and increase the frequency of health-related problems among residents.

The health and safety of our community should be prioritized over corporate development. It's essential that the local government conduct a comprehensive environmental impact assessment before proceeding with the data center project. Public hearings and transparency regarding potential environmental and health risks should be mandatory, allowing community voices to be heard and considered in the decision-making process.

Let's work together to protect the community of Carol Stream from potentially harmful industrial development. By signing this petition, you are advocating for a sustainable, health-conscious approach to local development. Please sign and share to ensure our voices are heard and our community remains safe and sustainable for future generations.
