The Issue

I’m writing this petition out of deep concern for our community in Broadlands, Virginia.

Massive, nearly 1-million-square-foot industrial data centers are threatening our neighborhood near Broadlands Boulevard & Belmont Ridge Road.

Because of outdated zoning ordinances, CyrusOne secured administrative, by-right approvals without any opportunity for public review. Treating a facility of this magnitude as an ordinary commercial building is far from reality. This is heavy industrial infrastructure, not a regular office.

Ask yourself: Do you really want nearly one-million-square-foot industrial data centers in the middle of our residential community, near our homes and schools?

The long-term environmental and neighborhood impacts cannot be ignored. Data centers consume enormous amounts of electricity and water, placing heavy demands on our local resources. They bring high-voltage power lines, massive backup generators, constant mechanical noise, and air pollution. It will fundamentally degrade our quality of life, impact negatively our property values, and alter the character of Broadlands forever.

The project has not moved forward yet, in part because of its enormous electrical infrastructure and high-voltage power demands.

This  gives us a critical opportunity to act now!

Residents deserve a voice. Residents should have rights too. Residents did not ask for a data center—not then or now, and don't let the Board of Supervisors (BOS) tell you otherwise!

We have an opportunity to make our voices heard. We need to protect the character and integrity of Broadlands.

Please sign this petition and join us in doing everything possible to STOP these data centers. Demand that your local Board of Supervisors (BOS) and state representatives to do everything in their authority to STOP this development. Contact your Board of Supervisors directly. Tell your representatives their re-election depends on it!
