The Issue

As a passionate animal lover, the news of the impending draft law of the Turkish government planning a mass cull of nearly 6 million street dogs deeply saddens and horrifies me.

Turkey, known for its rich history, beautiful landscapes, and warm hospitality, attracts millions of tourists around the world every year. However, its government's decision to cull street dogs risks tarnishing its image globally and may potentially impact tourism. We understand there is a stray dog problem, but slaughter should never be the solution.

Sterilisation of these street dwellers and responsible human management of the situation is a possible solution. Indeed, the World Health Organisation (WHO) advocates for a comprehensive approach in managing dog populations which includes: registration, legislation, neutering, monitoring and control of dog movement, training of veterinary practitioners, and public education. Hence, by implementing these measures, the Turkish government can demonstrate that it leads not just with regards to humanitarian efforts, but also in safeguarding the welfare of animals.

Let's call on the Turkish government to take a different direction of a more humane and effective approach to address the stray dog situation. Sign this petition to take a stand against the culling of 6million street dogs in Turkey, and create a wave of change for animal rights across the country. Please, sign and share this petition today. Together, we can make a difference.
