Even though I live outside Iran now, my connection to Sanandaj remains unbroken, bonded by memories of its people, streets, and culture. It pains me to see headlines and images of terrified dogs being mistreated in the city that still holds my heart.

In Sanandaj, there are funds specifically allocated for the humane management of the stray dog population, which include sterilization, vaccination, and providing shelters for these animals. Despite these allocations, credible reports indicate that many dogs are being subjected to cruel treatment, including killing, rather than receiving the care intended by these funds. This situation is not only morally wrong, but it also raises significant concerns about financial mismanagement and the transparency of public operations.

Local officials and contractors claim substantial expenses for each dog that is supposedly captured, sterilized, treated, and released. However, there is a striking absence of transparent records, tracking systems, and identification tags that could verify these claims. The lack of accountability and oversight casts doubt on these reported actions and suggests a misapplication of public funds. Residents and animal advocates in Sanandaj, along with concerned individuals worldwide, are calling for transparent auditing of these finances and practices.
