Stop The Cruel Animal Events at the Calgary Stampede Rodeo
The Issue
STOP THE HORRIFIC CRUELTY TO THE ANIMALS AT RODEO EVENTS!
While this Petition is directed to the CEO's of the companies who sponsor the annual Calgary Exhibition and Stampede, along with the Chief Executive Officer and Organizers of the Stampede, we want to stop rodeos everywhere. In my opinion, Animals must not be used anywhere for human entertainment.
Please do not sponsor the Stampede until Stampede Organizers permanently cease the rodeo events and chuck wagon races.

Rodeos are very cruel for the animals involved and by signing this Petition, I'm asking you to help me get rodeo events stopped everywhere, but especially here in Calgary, Alberta, Canada where I live which is the home of the Calgary Stampede.
The Calgary Stampede is an annual festival, exhibition and rodeo held every July which celebrates the history of Calgary which is important, but shrouding animal cruelty in the Stampede rodeo events is NOT. One example of the cruelty which is public knowledge is that over 100 horses have been killed at the Calgary Stampede rodeo since 1986. The rodeo events at the Calgary Stampede also include the chuck wagon races. Take a look at this brief news video of what can and does happen in the chuck wagon races. As you will see a beautiful horse is running his heart out for his wagon driver, but very sadly dies when another driver deliberately swerves into a competing team of horses - take a look:
Not a lot of people are aware that electric prods, spurs and bucking straps are used to irritate and enrage the normally docile and gentle animals used in rodeos. Before entering the ring, horses and cows are prodded with an electrical "hotshot" so the pain will get them riled up. As history shows, horses easily break legs in rodeos and are euthanized.
The calf roping you see below is horribly cruel to the little animals.
My Mother taught me about caring for animals and birds as a little boy growing up near London, England during the Second World War. This education helped distract me from the frequent and frightening bombings by the Luftwaffe (Nazi air force) on the Royal Air Force fighter aircraft base located 3 miles away from our house.
After my Father came home safely from being away for 5 years on the front lines fighting the Nazis in North Africa and Europe, the teachings by my parents about watching out for, and caring for animals and birds continued on long after the war ended and even into my teen years.
Hence that education is a big part of who I am today and why I feel it is necessary for me to bring to your attention the animal cruelty at the Stampede Rodeo events and ask you to cease your sponsorship of the Calgary Stampede and in doing so advise the Stampede organizers of why your company will no longer financially support the Stampede.
