Stop the Crackdown on Horseback Riders in Fort Worth

Stop the Crackdown on Horseback Riders in Fort Worth
The Issue
For generations, horseback riders have helped keep Fort Worth’s cowboy spirit alive — especially in the Stockyards, where locals and visitors alike come to experience living Texas history.
But now, riders are being threatened with fines of $250 per horse simply for standing on sidewalks or pausing outside high-traffic areas. Longtime community members say they’ve never seen this level of aggressive enforcement before — and fear it could push horsemen and women out of the very space that defines their identity.
There’s been no clear new policy, only a sudden crackdown with unclear rules and zero public input. While safety matters, so does culture — and Fort Worth’s Western legacy depends on making space for actual cowboys, not just corporate branding.
We’re calling on Stockyards Heritage Development Co. and the City of Fort Worth to work with local riders, not against them. That means clear, fair guidelines — not scare tactics. And it means protecting the horseback presence that gives Cowtown its soul.
Don’t turn Fort Worth’s Western heritage into a photo op with no roots. Stand up for the people who live the culture — and the horses who helped build it.
