My brother is on the brink of losing the only home he has ever known in Hull  – a home that has been our family's sanctuary for 56 years. Following the recent passing of our brother, who lived there since the age of just three weeks, the local council has decided to proceed with the eviction despite my brother's precarious situation. He is not only awaiting knee surgery with a pre-operative appointment set for 28th September, but he is also grappling with mental health challenges that make an upheaval at this time immensely distressing.

The reason cited for this eviction is the previous succession of the tenancy after our mother's passing, but we implore the council to consider the genuine need for stability and support in my brother's life. There are no suitable alternative accommodations available nearby, which means moving would further isolate him from the family support system he desperately needs – including myself who lives across the street, our other brother around the corner, and his son in the area.

This home is more than just a building; it’s the heart of our family life, a place filled with memories and the only constant in a life full of struggles and changes. Displacement would not only disrupt my brother's crucial support network but negatively impact his recovery and mental well-being during a critically vulnerable time.

We are urging the council to reconsider this eviction and allow my brother to remain in his home where he has the support network crucial for his mental and physical health. With family nearby, he has immediate access to the help and care he needs to manage his condition and successfully navigate the challenges of post-operative recovery.
