Free Anthony L. Kimbrough after wrongful conviction
The Issue
Today this happened to my father, tomorrow this could happen to someone in your family, if not already. Please help prevent corruption in the Police Forensic laboratories!
My name is Anthony Devon Kimbrough, I'm the son of Anthony Kimbrough Sr.
The same latent print can't belong to both the right and left thumb of my Father Anthony Kimbrough Sr.
Throughout the United States and around the world, I've heard a lot of talk of corruption in the police forensic laboratories. Now this notion of corruption seemed crazy to me at first, but after doing some research and networking I have discovered some inconsistencies 30 years after my father Anthony's conviction.
I should have known something was wrong with the prosecutor's case after they announced to the judge they had lost a set of Anthony's fingerprint cards. Was the fingerprint cards sent from Oakland, California county jail not good enough? To help me understand how this type of corruption can last for so long, I had to first understand a little about the court system.
Before jury trial, Anthony's first defense counsel was removed from the case after he had announced that his own forensic expert would testify regarding his independent analysis of the state's fingerprint expert a Mr Robert Yerton; he was also willing to testify regarding Mr Yerton's evaluation, and to the possibility of the placement of Anthony's fingerprints at the drug crime scene.
During jury trial, the state relied on their fingerprint expert (Yerton) to help make their case . Yerton was a retired police officer, but worked in the Tulsa Police forensic laboratory as a civilian. He testified that he had lifted three latent prints at the drug crime scene. One print from the plastic bag with cocaine inside and in his personal opinion, belonged to Anthony's number one finger or right thumb with the minimum of 15 points identification. This second latent print was from the outside of a Kleenex tissue box, which contained some bags of cocaine and in his personal opinion, belonged to Anthony's number 6 or right thumb with a minimum of 12 points of identification. The third latent print was from an unidentified palm print in which Yerton couldn't make any match to.The state argued the drugs which were found inside Anthony's Uncle's bedroom was one of the motives for the police officer's shooting death, which occurred during a routine traffic stop. Anthony stated the police officer was shot by the man who got out of the gray car from across the street.
(Anthony's life before his conviction) Anthony was a one-time Golden gloves and regional amateur boxing champion of Northern California. A one time state champion and Golden gloves regional champion of both Oklahoma and Topeka Kansas; and a one time district champion of Miami, Florida. Anthony entered the ABF Nationals in Colorado Springs, Colorado with only three fights on his record at the time. He also boxed in the Golden glove Nationals in Miami, Florida; the P.A.L. Nationals in Newark, New Jersey. Anthony had one international fight in the Cayman Islands, where he won. Anthony had dreams to go to the 1992 Olympic games and represent the United States of America thereafter turnpro and become a world boxing champion. However, Anthony's dreams were taken away from him in 1993 when he was wrongfully convicted and sentenced to life without parole for murder. Life with parole for drug trafficking and 5 years for failure to obtain a drug stamp ,all sentences running consecutively.
(Anthony Kimbrough's life while in prison) Anthony has spent 30 years in prison 22 of which in high Max security. During Anthony's time in prison he has self-educated himself, becoming a law clerk in 2016 and receiving his ESB certification in 2018. He is now currently enrolled in the Prison Fellowship Ministries program at the Lexington Correctional Center. Anthony has over 16 years of clear conduct. Although his achievements in prison are good; do to spending 23 to 24 hours locked down and receiving little to no sunlight it has caused him some health problems. Anthony is currently in the third stage of kidney failure and had a major heart attack in 2019. He had two heart surgeries in which the doctor placed five stints around his heart to keep him alive. The reason for Anthony to stay in high MAX security for so long, was from a 2004 protest by the Tulsa Police department and the victims family.
In conclusion, the state of Oklahoma is currently housing over 22,000 prisoners leading the nation in locking up women, and have over 35 prisoners currently on death row. One must wonder, how many of those prisoners convictions was upon false forensic expert testimony? Anthony has claimed his innocence and has filed his pro-se post-conviction for DNA testing in which judge Dawn Moody has granted a May 31st 2023 virtual DNA evidentiary hearing at 9:00 a.m. in a Tulsa County courtroom #406. Case number Cf-93- 1833We encourage everybody to watch or attend!
We the Kimbrough family have also set up a GoFundMe page which you can go to and donate. We need to raise money to recheck any and all DNA evidence with newer technology outside the state of Oklahoma. Please go to Stop The Corruption in the Police Forensic Labs to donate.
