As residents of the close-knit community of the Pt Chevalier and Walker Park area, we are deeply concerned with Auckland Transport's proposed plans(or potentially already put into place)  to convert our beloved park and its surrounding ring road into a thoroughfare that operates buses every 15 minutes, until midnight seven days a week! (yes its INSANITY) 

The project will disrupt the peaceful nature of the park, and its residents Walker Park was intended as a place for children, families, and sports teams to enjoy and Auckland transport want to turn our small, quiet neighbourhood into a a thorough fare for buses, plus take out already strained parking to accomodate a bus depot for multiple waiting buses.

The noise, pollution and danger from the constant stream of buses and lights is a threat to our children's safety and community use of the area.

 Moreover, this plan has been thrust upon us without adequate consultation, and we believe this is a grave affront to the democratic values. 

We are not against better transport solutions for Auckland. Yet, turning Walker Park into a bus terminal is not a sustainable or respectful solution. We believe the integrity and function of our park should be preserved, and that a thorough consultation process that includes local residents in decision-making should be undertaken to identify better options. The voice of the residents must be heard.

We are calling on Auckland Transport to halt its plans until a more appropriate location for this bus race track & depot is found. We plead for the preservation of Walker Park, the respect of our neighbourhood’s tranquility, and the safety of our children. Please join us, sign this petition to protect our park and neighbourhood.
