My parents have lived in our small community for years, a place where they hoped to spend the rest of their lives in peace. They, like many others in our community, are growing older and rely heavily on essential utilities. Amidst this, a worrying situation has emerged that threatens their way of life. Local officials are pushing for the construction of a massive data center. This development not only stands to disrupt our peaceful community but also threatens the stability of the local power grid that so many residents, who are on oxygen 24/7, working from home, or homeschooling, crucially depend upon.

Data centers are notorious for their substantial energy consumption. The fear is palpable: what happens if a power outage occurs? The elderly who depend on medical electricity, children being homeschooled, individuals working from home – all are at risk of being affected by such interruptions. The thought is terrifying and unacceptable. Not only will this data center demand significant power, but it also incredibly benefits from a 50% tax break, leaving residents to shoulder a heavier tax burden.

Our small township has spoken: a majority of the residents firmly oppose this data center. Yet, officials seem determined to approve this project without just consideration of the community's collective voice. Each decision made affects us all – we deserve to be heard, not overshadowed by corporate interests.
