The Issue
For decades, my family has been a part of the Christian Life Center community in Bensalem, PA, located at the intersection of Richlieu and Galloway Roads. Our deep-rooted connection to this cherished place is more than just a spiritual one; my mother, a devoted member, even traveled to Bolivia with our church to lend a helping hand to those in need. Her commitment represents the heartfelt bond our family shares with the Christian Life Center and its mission.
Recently, our community received a shocking announcement: an Islamist Center is set to be built directly across from our beloved church. This proposal has sent ripples of concern and unease through our tight-knit community. We feel as though our cherished values and way of life are being encroached upon, and there's fear that this may erode the sense of unity and identity we have worked so hard to cultivate.
While we respect the freedom of religion, the proximity of the proposed Islamist Center to our church seems like a deliberate attempt to infringe on our community space. We believe that religious establishments should enhance their neighborhoods—promoting understanding and harmony—not create tension or divisiveness. This project feels like an intrusion rather than a development that adds to Bensalem’s rich cultural tapestry.
We sincerely ask that the planning authorities reconsider the decision to permit this construction so close to our congregation. Bensalem has diverse areas where new religious centers can be established without infringing upon existing ones. Our hope is to engage in a dialogue and find a peaceful resolution that respects everyone's rights.
