Stop the construction of the Clark County Jail
The Issue
Our beloved neighborhood, with its vibrant soccer complex, water park, and tranquil Simon-Kenton bike path, sits at the heart of our community in Clark County. It’s a place where families come together, where children play, and where the community enjoys the simple pleasures of life. However, this cherished environment is under threat due to the proposal to construct a new county jail in our peaceful neighborhood.
The proposed site for the jail is dangerously close to areas where families gather and children play. Building a jail here would not only compromise the safety and peace of our neighborhoods but will also lead to the destruction of the Simon-Kenton bike path, which is an integral part of our community's recreational and environmental well-being. This bike path, extending from Urbana to Cincinnati, is not just a trail but a historic and natural way for our families to connect with nature and each other.
Jails, by their very nature, are designed to hold those who have departed from societal norms, and their presence requires heightened security measures. Is this the surrounding environment we envision for our children as they play soccer or go for a Saturday bike ride? I urge the decision-makers to consider alternative locations that do not jeopardize vital community spaces or disrupt the harmony of our neighborhood.
Economic growth and community safety should never be at odds. There are countless other locales within Clark County more suited for a development such as this, locations that would not intrude upon family-centered areas nor demand the sacrifice of recreational and green spaces. Experts in urban planning and community development vigorously argue for keeping penal institutions away from areas dense with families and recreational activities - not only for aesthetic reasons but for maintaining public safety and community morale.
We must come together now to protect the sanctity of our neighborhoods and ensure the safety and well-being of our families. Let's present a united front to the Clark County authorities and demand a halt to this ill-conceived plan. Let's compel them to explore alternate sites that do not compromise our values or way of life.
Please join me in preserving our community by signing this petition. Together, we can prevent the construction of the jail at this proposed site, safeguarding our cherished environment and protecting the future of our children.
