The Issue

The charm of our quiet Bowie, MD neighborhood lies in its serene environment and tight-knit community. Our area was designed to cater to suburban living, which means our infrastructure was never intended to accommodate large constructions. The planned construction of a mosque could radically alter our neighborhood in ways that are concerning to many residents.

Firstly, the issue of parking is a major concern. Our streets are narrow and not equipped to handle the additional cars that the mosque would bring. On a regular day, finding parking can already be a challenge. Introducing a large facility that caters to hundreds of people will only exacerbate this problem.

Beyond parking, the increase in traffic is a serious issue. The roads leading in and out of our neighborhood are small, and an influx of vehicles will not only create congestion but also significantly increase the risk of traffic accidents. Children play in our streets, and the thought of heightened traffic endangering their safety is something we cannot ignore.

Furthermore, the construction process itself will bring an array of challenges. From noise pollution to the possible deterioration of roads due to heavy machinery, these are inconveniences we will face during what could be a lengthy construction period.

While we understand and respect the importance of religious and community centers, it is crucial that all such constructions are in harmony with their surroundings. We urge local authorities to reassess the implications of this project and seek an alternative location that would be more suitable for a large construction such as this.

Sign this petition to help maintain the safety and tranquility of our cherished community.

Location of planned construction will be off of fifth street and Elm Ave
