Stop the construction of a massive energy storage complex in Harford County
Stop the construction of a massive energy storage complex in Harford County
The Issue
In the tranquil northwest corner of Harford County, Maryland, our community is blessed with the presence of rare and threatened wildlife, including the majestic bald eagle, a symbol of our nation. For over 40 years, many of us awaited the remarkable sight of bald eagles soaring above, a testament to the thriving natural ecosystems we strive to protect. However, this cherished environment is now under threat.
Oyster Catcher Energy Storage's applicant, Cardinal Energy Storage East, LLC, plans to construct a sprawling 73-acre, 500 Mega Watt Energy Storage Complex in our serene backyard—a place where we raise our families and enjoy the unspoiled beauty of nature. The proposed facility will house massive lithium-ion batteries that pose significant risks. The dangers of lithium-ion batteries are well-documented, including the potential for fires that are notoriously difficult to extinguish, the release of toxic hydrogen fluoride fumes, and the ever-present risk of water contamination.
The construction of this complex could disrupt sensitive wetlands, endanger numerous wildlife species, and lead to the destruction of irreplaceable habitats. Our community’s water supply, essential for the well-being of both residents and wildlife, is under threat from potential contamination, eroding the health and safety of our beloved home.
This proposed energy storage complex goes against the interests of our community, prioritizing corporate gain over the environment and public safety. We ask Oyster Catcher Energy Storage and Cardinal Energy Storage East, LLC, to reconsider and invest in safer, more sustainable alternatives that do not endanger our land and lives.
We urge the Harford County Council and environmental authorities to halt this project in its tracks. Protect our environment, safeguard our health, and preserve the unique biodiversity of northwest Harford County.
Please join us in opposing this development; sign this petition to demand a stop to the construction of the energy storage complex and to advocate for sustainable solutions that align with the values and welfare of our community.
