The Issue

We are calling on the Highland Council to halt plans for building a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) near residential areas and on protected green space at Fairways, Inverness. The proposed site is not only close to homes but also threatens our cherished green space which has been classified as protected under the Highland Council's own Inner Moray Firth Local Development Plan. This plan was only recently approved by the Scottish Government.

BESS facilities can pose potential risks including fire hazards, noise pollution, and environmental degradation and there have been incidents of fires at similar facilities around the world due to thermal runaway in lithium-ion batteries. This could pose a significant risk to nearby residents and wildlife alike.

We urge the Highland Council to reconsider this decision and explore safer alternatives that won't compromise our environment or quality of life in Inverness. Please sign this petition if you share these concerns about preserving our residential areas and protected green spaces from potentially harmful industrial developments.
