Stop the Consideration of a School Bus Depot on Anderson Boulevard in Lindon
The Issue
To the Board of the Timpanogos School District and Business Administrator Jason Sundberg:
We, the residents, homeowners, and taxpayers of Lindon stand united in absolute opposition to the possible construction of a school bus depot on the Anderson Boulevard parcel located in Lindon.
While we fully support our new, budding school district, placing an industrial-scale transportation facility directly in the center of an established residential community is unacceptable. It is not that this bus depot doesn't belong in our neighborhood; it is that a bus depot doesn't belong in any neighborhood.
We are signing this petition to request that the school board halt all planning immediately until a comprehensive, transparent Environmental Impact Report (EIR) is conducted, and a formal, in-person community forum is held in our neighborhood. We request that our neighborhood be removed from the list of possible locations the district is considering for a bus depot.
The Negative Impacts on Our Community:
Property Value and Desirability: Forcing an industrial eyesore into a residential zone will trigger a sharp, permanent decline in our property values. Future homebuyers will look elsewhere, destroying the hard-earned equity we have invested in our homes.
Safety and Security: Transforming a quiet neighborhood space into a high-traffic transit hub and fuel storage site introduces unmonitored incoming traffic, industrial hazards, and safety risks to an area where our children should be able to play without worry.
Noise Pollution: School bus fleets operate on strict, highly concentrated early-morning shifts. Dozens of heavy diesel engines starting, idling, and revving simultaneously as early as 5:30 AM will shatter the peace of our neighborhood while families and children are still sleeping.
Air Quality: Concentrated diesel emissions, exhaust particles, and toxic chemical fumes from fueling and maintenance create immediate respiratory and health risks. This drop in air quality will happen literally feet away from our homes and yards where our children play.
Traffic Congestion and Safety: Introducing a massive fleet of large buses into local neighborhood streets during peak morning and afternoon hours will cause severe gridlock and create an immediate, hazardous environment for walking children, cyclists, and local drivers.
Light Pollution: A facility of this scale requires high-intensity security lighting, floodlights, and early-morning bus headlights. This invasive artificial light will beam directly into surrounding bedroom windows, disrupting sleep schedules and destroying the neighborhood's residential character.
An industrial facility belongs in an industrial zone—not in the heart of our community.
This isn't just a Lindon issue—it directly impacts families and taxpayers in Pleasant Grove and Vineyard as well.
This specific plot of land on Anderson Boulevard was originally intended to house a future elementary school designed to serve the rapidly growing west side of Lindon, Pleasant Grove, and Vineyard. Turning this site into an industrial bus depot permanently eliminates that possibility.
The west side of our combined communities is experiencing massive residential growth. There are virtually no other large plots of land set aside or available for future schools in Lindon, Pleasant Grove, or Vineyard. If the district builds a bus depot here, future elementary students from all three cities will face overcrowding or be bussed to much more distant schools.
We call upon the Timpanogos School District Board to reconsider this short-sighted plan. Instead of permanently losing prime educational land to an industrial facility, we urge you to protect this space for our future students and actively collaborate with the community to explore alternative, commercial locations that align with the long-term needs of our entire school district. Protecting our neighborhoods and planning responsibly for our children's future must be your priority.
