The Issue

We, the undersigned, are calling on the UK Government and the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero to reject the proposed Connah’s Quay Low Carbon Power Project.

While we recognise the importance of energy security and reducing carbon emissions, we believe this development poses unacceptable risks to the environment, local communities and the character of Flintshire and the Dee Estuary.

The Dee Estuary is one of the most important ecological sites in the United Kingdom. It provides vital habitat for internationally important bird populations and supports a rich and diverse natural environment. Local residents are concerned that further large-scale industrial development could place additional pressure on this already sensitive ecosystem.

We are also concerned about the potential impact on air quality and public health. Flintshire already hosts significant industrial and energy infrastructure. Many residents feel that local communities are being asked to shoulder an ever-increasing environmental burden while the benefits of these developments are enjoyed elsewhere.

The visual impact of the proposed power station is another major concern. The Dee Estuary, Flint coastline and surrounding countryside form an important part of our area’s identity and heritage. Additional industrial buildings, stacks and associated infrastructure would further industrialise the landscape and diminish views enjoyed by residents and visitors alike.

This petition is not about opposing progress. It is about ensuring that development is sustainable, proportionate and respectful of the communities and environments it affects.

We believe that North East Wales has already contributed enormously to the nation’s industrial and energy needs. It is time for decision-makers to listen to local people and recognise that there must be limits to further industrial expansion in this area.

By signing this petition, you are calling upon the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero to reject the Connah’s Quay Low Carbon Power Project and to protect the Dee Estuary, local communities and the future character of Flintshire.

Please sign and share this petition to help ensure that the voices of local residents are heard.
