The Issue

I am writing to express my deep concern and objection to Development Application PA/07448/25, which proposes the extensive development of land that belongs to the Siggiewi Parish Church. This project, under the guise of building a parish centre and multi-purpose halls, unfortunately, also consists of creating residential flats and commercial spaces, revealing its true commercial intent rather than a solely pastoral one.

Siggiewi is a community that cherishes its cultural heritage and values preserving spaces that foster a sense of connection and spirituality. The planned development threatens the essence of our community by potentially replacing these cherished spaces with commercial properties—an action that reflects financial interests over community well-being.

As a member of this community, I am personally invested in preserving the character and integrity of Siggiewi. The introduction of residential and commercial development on church land not only jeopardizes the character of our neighborhood but also risks overshadowing the spiritual and cultural values that this land embodies. Our goal should be to enhance our community through careful and meaningful development, not by prioritizing commercial gain.

There are several reasons why this development should not proceed in its current form:
1. **Community Impact:** Turning religious land into commercial use threatens community coherence and the parish's role as a spiritual hub.
2. **Environmental Concerns:** The proposed development is likely to increase urbanisation pressure on remaining rural surrounds, affecting local ecosystems and biodiversity.
3. **Cultural Heritage:** Siggiewi is rich in tradition, and preserving church-owned land in its current state is vital for maintaining our cultural landscape.
4. **Traffic and Infrastructure Strain:** Increased residential and commercial density will exacerbate traffic issues and place additional strain on local infrastructure and resources.

In light of these issues, I urge the local planning authorities and the community to rethink the implications of this project. We need a transparent dialogue that respects both the church’s needs and the broader community’s interests, ensuring development enhances rather than degrades our environment and society.

This petition calls upon local residents, parish members, and concerned citizens to stand together and demand a revisiting of the proposed plans for the benefit of Siggiewi’s future. Please, sign this petition to protect our community against unsuitable development and ensure that the future of Siggiewi is one that reflects our shared values and traditions.
