Yesterday I presented the first four factors. Today I am presenting the other eight. As to the family environment, two of the factors are out of your control. If you or your spouse went to college, you have to live with it. Do not lie. As to ESL, if you are a native English speaker, do not lie. If you are not, good for you. At least this is one factor favoring immigrants. As to median income, I assume that it is the median income of the neighborhood, not your actual household income. Buying real estate in a depressed high-crime zip code might help, as discussed yesterday. As to single parenthood, is a divorce worth the trouble just for your children’s college admissions? Does CB prefer illegitimate children over children borne into two-parent families?
As to the last four factors related to the high school environment, I need not say more. Enroll your child in a school with no academic rigor, no or few AP courses, few college acceptances, and where many students get free lunch. Free lunch! What a wonderful idea! Besides, those are the high schools that usually have rampant grade inflation. Much easier to get a higher GPA than an academically rigorous school.
