Read-Pattillo Elementary School is a vital part of our community in New Smyrna Beach, FL.

The proposed closure by the District threatens to disrupt our children's education and force them into unfamiliar environments. This school has been serving our community for decades and its closure would affect hundreds of families who rely on it for their children's education.

According to the National Education Policy Center, school closures can lead to negative impacts on student achievement and often disproportionately affect low-income communities (NEPC, 2017). We believe that every child deserves a stable learning environment.

Therefore, we urge the District to reconsider their decision and keep Read-Pattillo Elementary School open.

If Read-Pattillo closes, we as parents of Read-Pattillo children as well as parents of children at Chisholm, Edgewater and Indian River will look to move our children to charter and private schools and take our tax dollars with us.
