Stop the Closure of Ludgate Respite Care Facility in Clackmannanshire

The Issue

My elderly mum and the family have benefited from the compassionate and essential services provided by Ludgate House for respite care over the last 6 weeks. As the only facility in Clackmannanshire that offers 24/7 specialist care, Ludgate House isn't just a building; it's a lifeline for many in our community. Its proposed closure threatens not only the wellbeing of elderly residents but also the peace of mind of families who rely on its crucial support.  Over the last 6 weeks we have met many service users who frequently rely on Ludgate House for respite - to give their main carers at home a break, knowing that their loved one is being well cared for and looked after.

When my Stepdad had a horrific fall 6 weeks ago, my mum who is living with dementia needed cared for as he was in hospital. We as a family stepped in but knew we couldn't provide Mum with the 24/7 care she needs long term so she was lucky enough to move into Ludgate House Respite.

Ludgate House is more than a respite care facility; it's a community hub that plays a vital role in supporting our elderly population. It offers unique and personalised care that simply cannot be replaced by other proposed options such as providing respite care in each person's home.  How does that give the main carers and family respite?  What about overnight care when that is what most people and their families need.

The closure of Ludgate House would mean more than just a loss of jobs and a blow to the local economy; it would leave elderly residents and their families without a local haven for respite. The local council must understand the negative impact and immense stress this decision could bring upon countless families.

What consultation has been done with any of the service users of Ludgate House Respite or their families?  We have seen no evidence of any consultation so far.

Reports from local media, such as the Alloa Advertiser, indicate a lack of clarity regarding the future of Ludgate House

(https://www.alloaadvertiser.com/news/25072149.alloa-confusion-remains-surrounding-future-ludgate-house/ This uncertainty adds further strain on families already grappling with the challenges of finding suitable care for their loved ones.

We urge Clackmannanshire Council to reconsider their proposal, keeping in mind the severe gap that closing this facility would leave in our community. There is a pressing need to maintain Ludgate House's operations not just to preserve jobs, but to sustain the quality of life for our elderly.

Please join us in making our voices heard to ensure that Ludgate House Respite remains open, continuing to serve the community that so desperately needs it. Sign the petition to show that the heart of Clackmannanshire cannot afford to lose this essential service.
