The safety of our community is paramount, and as parents and residents, the proposed relocation of the warming shelter to Church Street deeply concerns us. Nestled in the heart of a residential neighborhood, this new location could dramatically impact the safety and well-being of our children. The city’s decision has been made with insufficient transparency and consideration for local residents.

First and foremost, the lack of transparent communication regarding the decision-making process has left many of us in the dark. As tax-paying citizens, we deserve to be made aware of all plans involving our community, especially those that directly affect our daily lives and security. Why was Church Street chosen? How will this decision impact local traffic, safety, and property values? These are critical questions that remain unanswered.

Additionally, we question the staffing and qualifications of those who will run the relocated shelter. Ensuring that individuals in charge are adequately trained and equipped to manage such responsibilities is essential. This is not only for the safety of the shelter residents but also for that of the neighborhood. The current lack of clarity does not inspire confidence that these concerns are adequately addressed.

Moreover, while we support the cause of assisting individuals experiencing homelessness, the suggested location does not seem to be the most suitable option. Proximity to schools and residential areas could lead to unforeseen incidents, potentially putting our most vulnerable community members, the children, at risk.

We urge the city to rethink its strategy and work closely with all stakeholders, including community members and subject matter experts, to find a more appropriate solution. There are undoubtedly other locations that could better serve the needs of the homeless community while ensuring the safety and peace of our neighborhood.

Given these concerns, we seek your support to stop the city from relocating the warming shelter to Church Street without a thorough assessment and an open forum to discuss alternative solutions. Your signature can make a crucial difference in maintaining the safety and integrity of our community. Please join us in urging city officials to reconsider this decision and prioritize transparent, inclusive planning that respects both the needs of the homeless and the safety of our neighborhood.
