Stop The City of Zanesville from Taking The Anchor Church's Property

Stop The City of Zanesville from Taking The Anchor Church's Property
The Issue
The Anchor Church of Zanesville needs your support to retain its legally purchased 3.984 acres of land at 2 Beaumont Street. The church purchased the property because its congregation, school, and daycare have outgrown its current facility. The Anchor church’s school and daycare will remain at the Chamberlin location while the church will relocate to 2 Beaumont Street, a short distance of 2 miles. The church's mission is to restore more people to a greater purpose and to serve the entire community, not just its members.
Why the city is threatening eminent domain:
Proposed ordinance 2025-24 claims the city of Zanesville needs the property to create or add to a public park for the health, safety, and general welfare of the citizens. This is not a matter of the community preferring a church or a pool. This is the city seizing privately owned property for another park.
The Truth:
⚠️ Zanesville is overflowing with parks & recreational space already. The following parks are within a 1-mile radius of 2 Beaumont Street, a total of 55.2 acres:
- Restoration Park - 2 acres
- Putnam Hill Park - 16.4 acres
- Putnam Landing Park - 4 acres
- Zanes Landing Park - 4.5 acres
- Lock #10 Canal Park - 1.3 miles long - roughly 3 acres
- Cuddle Dixon Park - 8.1 acres
- Confluence Park - 9 acres
- Chaps Run Park - 8.2 acres
• The city has no plans to construct a public pool at 2 Beaumont.
• The property legally belongs to the Anchor Church, purchased in June 2023.
• The Anchor Church approached the city before pursuing the land; the city stated that the property was too expensive, and they did not want it.
• City Zoning worked with the Anchor Church to create its building plans.
• The church always intended to partner with the city to beautify the area.
• The Anchor Church serves the community through programs such as financial education, substance abuse recovery, jail ministry, grief recovery, abortion recovery, multicultural outreach, age-focused social groups, and many more.
Please sign and share this petition to support the church so it can pursue its dream of helping the people of the City of Zanesville.
