STOP THE CHOP! Help stop the destruction of healthy mature trees in Wyong Shire, NSW.

The issue

In April 2015, Wyong Council amended its tree removal policy allowing trees to be removed from residential land less than 1500 m² without the need for council's approval.  This has resulted in the wholesale and indiscriminate loss of countless healthy, mature native trees across the Shire.  This uncontrolled removal of perfectly healthy trees is unacceptable and this controversial policy must be rescinded before countless more are lost.  The cumulative impacts of collective tree removal across Wyong Shire is unknown and is of great concern for future generations.  Our trees are part of our heritage and our legacy.

Trees not only provide essential habitat for our native wildlife, but also provide enormous benefits to human physical and mental well-being, and include the following:

·         Trees produce vital oxygen

·         Trees clean the air we breathe by filtering gaseous air pollutants

·         Trees reduce noise pollution and help abate traffic sounds

·         Trees slow storm water runoff and also act as windbreaks

·         Trees provide shade & cool temperatures up to 5°C

·         Trees increase property prices by up to 15%
