Stop the Child Tax: Mandate municipal tax exemptions for children under 12

The Issue

I travel to show my children the world, but I was shocked to find that in Pezinok, Slovakia, my 1-year-old baby was charged the same municipal "stay tax" as an adult. How can a government justify taxing an infant who doesn't earn a penny?

It is a total contradiction: Europe complains about low birth rates, yet local governments make it more expensive just to exist as a family. My toddlers don’t use the nightlife, they don’t get drunk, and they don’t use city infrastructure like adults do. While many cities rightfully exempt pets from municipal taxes, they continue to treat human children as revenue streams.

We demand that the European Commission and local municipalities:

  1. Mandate a 100% exemption from all municipal stay taxes for children under 12.
  2. Stop "Baby Taxes" and align with EU values by treating families as guests, not wallets.

FAQ: Addressing Common Misconceptions

Isn't this just hotel pricing? No. This is about the Municipal Tax paid directly to the city council, not the room rate paid to the hotel for services like towels or beds.
Don't kids use roads and parks? Yes, but tourist taxes are "user fees" specifically intended to offset the pressure of tourism infrastructure (nightlife, public transport, major events). A toddler in a stroller does not impact a city's infrastructure the way an adult traveler does.
Doesn't everyone already pay? Actually, NO. Most many EU cities already exempt children under a certain age. We are simply asking for this to be a mandatory EU-wide standard so families aren't exploited by inconsistent local laws.
