Stop the Canada Geese Massacres
This summer 400 Canada geese have already been killed in Brooklyn's Prospect Park and another 133 were killed in a park in New Jersey. The USDA is called in because Canada geese fall under the Migratory Birds Act, but instead of protecting the birds, they round them up and gas them to death.
As many as 2,000 geese or more may lose their lives this summer in these government-sanctioned culls under the guise of "public safety" or simply because they've declared the birds to be a "nuisance."
There are humane ways for people to co-exist with nature. Tell the USDA to stop killing Canada geese and use more humane - and effective - means of wildlife management.

I recently read on Change.org about the slaughter of hundreds of geese in New York and New Jersey. Culling is an ineffective and inhumane means of controlling the Canada geese population.
The birds who were pulled from Prospect Park in Brooklyn are mostly resident birds, who post little threat to aircraft (DNA testing traced the flock of geese that brought down U.S. Airways Flight 1549 to a migratory flock from Nova Scotia). The geese in New Jersey lost their lives for being a "nuisance." We can peacefully co-exist with wildlife.
When a flock disappears from a park, it has no long-term effect because a new flock moves in to the desirable habitat. More humane methods of control are available, from using herding dogs and decoys as deterrents to using methods like addling to ensure that eggs won't hatch.
I urge you to immediately stop culling Canada geese and work with communities to integrate humane methods of goose control.
