Stop the bullying

The Issue

The days of accepting the statements that bullying is a "rite of passage" or "a part of growing up" are long gone. Research on the significant effects of bullying on a young person's physical and mental health has been glaring since the early 1990's.It's crucial to keep in mind that bullying hinders learning, negatively impacts victims' mental health, and alters their self-perception well into adulthood.Bullying has an impact on all parties involved: the victim, the perpetrator, and the observer. Bullying has been connected to a number of detrimental effects, such as effects on substance abuse, mental health, and suicide.

Depending on the person and the situation, bullies may or may not change. As they get older and have a greater awareness of how their actions affect other people, some bullies may decide to modify their behavior. A bully's behavior may alter as a result of personal development, enhanced empathy, therapy, counseling, or other interventions. It's crucial to remember that not all bullies undergo behavioral changes; some may carry on their aggressive ways far into adulthood. It can be challenging to break deeply ingrained behavioral habits, particularly when the bully is unmotivated to change or lacks awareness of their behaviors.

Make sure that when bullying is noticed, all employees act right away. Children need to know that their teachers and other school personnel care about them and that they will not tolerate bullying. Adults who witness bullying in children can provide assistance to the victims of bullying as well as those who take active action against the bullies. When a bullying episode happens, let the parents of all the students involved know and work quickly to find a solution at school.
