STOP 4 Storey build at 230 Coxwell Avenue; Toronto, Ontario

The Issue

WHY ARE WE STARTING THE PETITION

We believe helping others is important but we want equality, respect, and consideration for current community members - it should not be secondary. Our home is a place of sanctuary and a balanced community will lead to a healthy community.

OUR CONCERNS

  1. 10 Zoning By-Laws adjustments requested BUT Zoning By-Laws exist to protect the stability/growth for our economy, environment, infrastructure, social community, health and wellness.
       - the adjustments have a negative impact
  2. 4 Studies waived BUT ARE CRITICAL i.e. Parking study, Traffic operations, Geotechnical study & Hydrological Review.
     - Parking currently is limited & challenging to find - the proposed building does not prevent car ownership nor visitors with cars
     - Geotechnical review raised foundation concerns to build 4 storey (section 4.2 of Geotechnical review)
  3. Application excludes 10+ information/studies i.e. Noise impact study, Community services & Facilities Study etc.
     - understanding impact is highly important
  4. Privacy and Safety
     - The proposed building gives visibility into private yards/homes
     - This is extremely uncomfortable and an imposition we avoid in day to day life
  5. Disruption before, during and after construction (~2years)
     - Has created elevated stress and negative impact on health
  6. Blocks ALL morning sunlight into homes/gardens  (~half the sunlight in a day). Decreased sunlight has negative effects on:
-Health (mood, mental, sleep, immune system, physical etc.)
-Family bonding during meals, activities in our yards/homes etc.
       -Growing food in gardens
-Money Savings (home temperature, food gardens etc.)
-Bacteria (sun kills bacteria in homes)
  7. Our community has many affordable housing units (current, in construction & proposed) & we don’t want our community to be overwhelmed i.e.Queen & Rhodes (220units), 1430 Gerrard E (23units), 355 Coxwell(33units), 425 Coxwell(12units), 1631 Queen E(140units), 136 Kingston Rd(24units) etc.

We need to act now, and as a cohesive community to STOP THE CONSTRUCTION
