Stop the board from restricting dog walking on Haines Mill Road
The Issue
I live in Canterbury Mews, where the board has recently proposed an amendment to the Master Deed that would prohibit dogs from relieving themselves along Haines Mill Road and instead force us to take them into the adjacent woods. This decision not only comes across as unethical but introduces a range of safety concerns for both our pets and residents.
First, let's consider the proposal's implications for our beloved animals. The woods are an isolated and unlit area, rife with potential dangers. It is a known habitat for snakes and other wildlife, and the risk of tick-borne diseases is significant. Forcing our dogs into this environment puts their health and safety at jeopardy. Walks should be a time for our pets to enjoy freely and safely, not an added marker of anxiety for owners worried about unseen threats.
Moreover, shifting our walks entirely into the safety on Haines Mill Road is already a concern due to inadequate lighting and absent sidewalks. Instead of introducing additional risks, we should be working to make this community more inclusive and safe for everyone.
Lastly, the imposition of such restrictions seems unnecessary when a cooperative approach could alleviate concerns linked to pet waste management. Installing more waste stations, encouraging responsible pet-ownership, and organizing pet-owner community meetings could be more effective ways to maintain cleanliness without resorting to such extreme measures.
We deserve a community where both people and their pets can coexist without compromising safety and comfort. Please sign this petition to urge the Board of Canterbury Mews to reconsider this proposed amendment and explore more thoughtful, inclusive solutions that benefit everyone.
**I made an error when doing my research regarding ADA in private communities. It is actually not required in the State of New Jersey so I have removed that from this online petition so all the above information reflects what is suggested based on the property manager veribage. I apologize for my mistake. The issue still stands our property manager omited Haines Mill Road from the orginal emaol and isnt owning her mistake which suggests a proposed amendment to the bylaws by law.**
