The Issue

Throughout my middle school and high school years, tools like Blooket, Kahoot, Gimkit, and Quizzes have significantly boosted my learning experience. Among these, Blooket stands out as a pivotal part of making WIN time productive and enjoyable. Every school term, we are asked if WIN time provides educational value and helps us get work done, and my response has always been "Strongly Agree" or "Agree" for teachers who utilized these game-based learning platforms.

These platforms make mundane reviews engaging. By turning practice into games, students become more invested in their learning and are encouraged to comprehend the material instead of merely memorizing it. This shift fosters deeper understanding and promotes long-term retention of information.

This proposed ban on Blooket and similar gamification review tools at Wayzata High School jeopardizes this valuable learning method. By removing these resources, we are turning our backs on innovative educational methods that conform to modern-day students' learning preferences.

Research has shown that gamification can significantly enhance learning outcomes. According to a study published in the International Journal of Educational Technology in Higher Education, students who engaged with gamified content scored 20% higher on exams than their peers who did not. Therefore, eliminating these tools is a step backward in promoting effective educational practices.

An inclusive educational environment should incorporate a variety of teaching tools catering to different learning styles. By banning tools like Blooket, we risk alienating students who thrive in interactive and game-based scenarios.

We must advocate for a balanced approach where both traditional and innovative methods coexist. I am urging the administration at Wayzata High School to reconsider its ban on these educational tools and allow teachers the flexibility to incorporate game-based learning techniques into their classrooms.

Sign this petition to bring back Blooket and other essential gamified educational tools in our school and continue providing students with an enriching learning environment.
